Food Horizon was founded in 2004 by our Managing Director, Simon Haines. Prior to Food Horizon he worked at Leatherhead Food Research Association (Research Scientist) bioMerieux UK Ltd (Technical Specialist, microbial diagnostics), and Biotrace Ltd (Global Key Account Manager, rapid hygiene monitoring).

At incorporation our mission was to work with food service businesses to help ensure compliance with food safety legislation. This objective remains but, rather than just food safety, has developed to a broader base of procedural control for anything that has to be
done in a certain way.

The Sentinel Management System was developed for food service & catering businesses.
The first application was food safety with the requirement for food safety management control procedures based on the principles of HACCP.

Working with customers the simple framework and flexibility has enabled Sentinel to develop beyond the scope of its original application. Food safety is the most technical of procedures required by most food businesses, after which other procedures are straight-forward to incorporate. This enables complete remote monitoring systems to be built around the operations of individual businesses.

It is what people do every day that makes a business 'work'. With this in mind the main purpose of procedures must be to ensure staff know what to do and when to do it. This is best achieved with simple concise instruction that can be quickly and easily understood. Simplicity is not always easy to achieve but is always our objective. Only simplicity works consistently.
